About this Manual
The primary audience for this manual is the staff of the UCI Libraries Technical Services Division. It is intended as a resource for day-to-day work activities, as well as an instructional tool for training. In a larger context, this manual also provides library staff, both within and outside of Technical Services, with background information about Technical Services procedures and workflow. You will notice that procedures in this manual, along with some of the other documentation, clearly identify the staff who are authorized to use them (e.g. "To be used by Acquisitions and Cataloging staff"). If you think that you need to use a procedure and you are not a member of a section authorized for this procedure, please explain the situation to your supervisor and wait for authorization. Do not attempt to use a procedure for which you are not authorized.
Keeping this manual accurate and up-to-date is a responsibility shared by all the Technical Services staff. If you notice any information in this manual that is incorrect or outdated, please report this to the person listed at the top of the page where you found the problem. If you have difficulties locating information in the manual, or navigating the site, please report them to the TS Online Manual Team. Many of our procedures. policies and workflows are not yet documented here; if you have suggestions for material to add to this manual, please discuss them with your team leader. To help people as they compose documentation for this manual, we have created a brief style sheet with guidelines on formatting and style. Each department is responsible for writing the documentation for its own procedures.
The TS Online Manual is maintained and updated by the TS Online Manual Team. Our primary responsibilities are to accept documentation from team leaders, revise it as necessary to fit the format of the manual, mount it on the manual site, and create the appropriate links. We also make corrections and additions to documents as requested by the team leaders. In addition, we will be revising and adapting the coding and layout of the site when desirable to take advantage of new technology. The current members of the team are: Anne Finnegan, Wendy Lewis, and Tom Savickas.
